Part of a loutrophoros decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in fragments in 1955 at the Sanctuary of the Nymphe, was pieced together and restored.

On the vase’s body different scenes of the nuptial ceremony are depicted. The bride stands enveloped in her veil which, according to the ritual, the nympheutria is about to pull revealing her face. The groom takes his bride by the wrist to lead her to his paternal home in the typical gesture that signifies the passing of the woman’s guardianship from her father to her husband. In front of the bridegroom stands his mother and welcomes the bride holding a torch lit from her hearth. On the vase’s other side a man leaning on a staff, perhaps the groom’s father, is depicted standing between two women.
